Where can I find an RSS reader?
What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format used to publish frequently updated web content via "feeds". The RSS content from these feeds is accessed using software called an RSS "reader" or "aggregator".
To subscribe to a feed, simply enter the feed's link into the reader or click the RSS icon located on a web site offering this service. The reader will automatically check for updates on a regular basis, and will display RSS feeds from all the sites that you have subscribed to. Instead of visiting a particular web site to browse for new articles and features, RSS will automatically fetch and list the new feeds that are posted online.
How do I access RSS content?
To access RSS content, you'll first need an RSS reader. This software allows you to subscribe to RSS content feeds from your favorite sites offering this service, and also checks for updates and lets you read the articles that have been added. There are many different types of RSS readers - some are browser-based, while others are downloadable.
Browser-based RSS readers let you catch up with your RSS content subscriptions from any computer, while downloadable applications let you store them on your own personal computer. Several web-based readers are available as well.
Where can I find an RSS reader?
There are a range of RSS readers available and new versions are appearing online all the time. Most recent browser releases, such as Internet Explorer 7, 8 and Firefox, have RSS readers built into them, ready to use. Different RSS readers work with different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that works with your computer. Some are very simple and free, while others are more complicated and for sale.
How do I choose my content?
Once you have set up your RSS reader, you simply subscribe to the RSS content feeds you want. While browsing the web, you may have seen small RSS or XML graphics on various sites. These indicate that the content is available for RSS feed. For example, Ceridian has an orange RSS button next to the headlines of our News page. By clicking on this button you can subscribe to the RSS content in the following ways:
Drag the URL/web address of the content you want into your news reader, or
Cut and paste the same URL/web address into a new "feed" in your news reader.
In fact, some browsers, like Firefox, Opera and Safari, automatically check for feeds when you visit a website, and display an icon when they find one. This can make subscribing to RSS even easier.
We hope you enjoy receiving all the latest press releases, news articles, and legislative updates from Ceridian Canada!
